  • A Thrilling experience

I watched the original gripping TV series TX on the BBC last year. Stephen Poliakoff is a Genius He’s always inferring to a hidden agenda of the upper classes or at least certain characters deep within it. The story line is full of twists and turns, In close to the enemy Stephen takes you into a seemingly normal situation of everyday life only to find yourself ravelled up into a plot that even though you’re in severe danger, you just have to go with the flow and just accept the journey. I’ve been privy to premiers of Stephens work in London through my profession, though sadly never had the opportunity to meet Him, but I follow anything from the Poliakoff stable. I have every episode on my Sky box but just had to buy the DVD to be able to record other content on it. I heartily recommend this production on several different aspects Technically perfect, the Actors have that typical shadow self awareness as in all the Authors screenplays, the Camera setups & grading eg The overall look is exactly what I would expect from a Stephen Poliakoff production. If you look carefully at the other theatrical releases & screenplays you can instantly tell it’s one of Stephen’s. I’m trying not to give anything away regarding the plot but the mini series has you guessing right up until the end. If you love Stephen Poliakoffs writing your going to love Close to the Enemy, but if you don’t or haven’t seen anything or read any of His books... go on give it a go after all what have you to lose ... your innocence ???

  • Lively characters, romance, jazz and thrills

It is set in 1946, when America, Russia and Britain were all trying to get hold of German scientists and engineers, to work on rockets and jet engines. With the backdrop of war crimes investigated with wanted the guilty to be returned to Germany to go on trial for war crimes. Our hero is a Captain in the army who is to be demobbed shortly, he is tasked with looking after a German engineer and is to persuade him to work for the British. Most of the scenes are set in a hotel that is due for demolition, but one side of the building remains intact, and that's where they live. In the basement there's a small jazz band with a forthright lead singer an African American woman with a tuneful jazz voice. The Captain's brother has been left with mental issues after fighting and is helped by the Captain when he gets into scrapes. There is intrigue, romance and jazz music, along with some colourful fashions of the day, as the last of the very rich live in style with scantily food rations from the kitchen of the hotel.

  • Great

Gripping WW2 drama. Plenty of plot twists. Great acting from all included, especially the mentally unwell brother. Recommended
