I had already bought the first 3 series when I bought this complete 1-9 set, and I'm currently watching series 4 "Freakshow". This is a pretty unique series. In spite of the 18 certificates it's on the whole pretty tame, certainly a lot tamer than other shows I've seen that were rated 15. Who knows what's running through the censor's mind when they make these decisions?! There's no sex, no swearing. Of course there is a substantial amount of intermittent gore, but for the most part it's fairly tongue in cheek. In case you didn't know, each series is a completely different story in a completely different setting with different characters. Much of the cast, however, remains the same. Several people have been in all 4 series so far, and several others have been in 2 or 3 of them, so it's like watching a repertory company. Having looked at the backs of all the cases it appears that the brilliant Jessica Lange is no longer in it after series 4, and that's a disappointment to me, but others, including Sarah Paulson, appear to be in pretty much all of them. For me, the show scores higher in some categories than it does in others and I suspect everyone will have their favourite series, mine for far being series 3 "Coven", but on the whole this is pretty much essential viewing. I've seen a lot of TV over the last 50 years but I've never seen anything like this before. Incidentally, I think I landed a counterfeit "set" here (it's really just 9 single series shrink-wrapped together,), but the picture and sound are pretty good and it was half the price everyone else was charging so I don't have much to moan about. Update 10th May 2023 I have finally watched all 9 series and although series 6 (Roanoke) and 9 (1984) were a bit disappointing, not to mention more confusing than usual, I can still heartily recommend the series as a whole. Series 5 (Hotel) and 7 (Cult) were both pretty awesome, and - spoiler alert! - Series 8 (Apocalypse) suddenly and unexpectedly turned into a sequel to Coven about 4 episodes in, so I positively squealed with delight.
