If you are someone who has an open fire, log burner or just interested in wood and logging, this is the book for you. It's great to curl up in front of the fire and read about the life of Norwegians past and present. Loads of tips on how to cut wood using axes, info about chainsaws and log-splitters etc It also talks about different stacking techniques, moisture content, best drying methods and which wood is best. There are also best output calculations. But what is best about this book is that it is so engaging. Didn't want to put down. Awesome read.

Not worth the money, anyone who cuts and burns wood will know most of what is in the book, He's telling us nothing thats not common sense, there is a lot of rubbish when to cut your wood down, when all you need to do is season (dry) it well. Wood is wood, you get out what you put in, Lb for Lb i.e. soft wood or hard wood It all burns much the same. I have 10 acres of woodland , if it leans over or fallen it goes on one the the 3 fires we have (2 stoves 1 open) pretty sure there are better books to read about country living

If you are interested in all aspects of fire wood production literally from start to finish, this is a good read. If you just need a book , it also contains a good amount of detail on natural ageing of men, very delicately and with great observations...not quite from start, but right to finish. I would say a really good read aimed at those with a woodburner, but also more generally of interest to many.

Bought this as present for my brother. Really impressed by this book by a very knowledgeable author. Recommend to fellow wood lovers.

Full of facts regarding firewood, but taking a philosophical look at the culture of growing, cutting, seasoning and using firewood. From artistic and functional timber stacks, to explaining how all things have their season, including timber, and humans. Anybody who enjoys the process of being self reliant when it comes to heating their home with timber will love this book. There may be more purely practical books out there, but this is informative, entertaining, thoughtful, and enjoyable.
