Goemon's Great Adventure is definitely harder than it's predecessor Mystical Ninja starring Goemon, but it makes up for it with a great story, better graphic's and a more fluid control system, even though the game now plays 2d more than 3d outside of towns, but it makes it easier to hit enemies that get in your way. Health is the biggest change as you only have three bars, which can be extended to six by buying equipment in towns or finding a certain item in levels, but since your weapons now upgrade through item pick up rather than certain points in the story like the previous game it's a good trade off. If your a fan of Mario or Zelda with mechs thrown in i'd definitely recommend this gem of a game, but I would also advise getting Mystical Ninja starring Goemon as well since both deserve to be in any N64 gamer collection.Read full review

The original game of Goemon had a compelling promise of wondering through Feudal Japan in a 3D setting. This game returns to the side-scrolling style and while still fun lacks the openness with better mechanics hoped for in the sequel.

This game is basically an updated version of Goemon 2 (Super Famicom) which features polygonal 2D sidescrolling levels that require platform jumping, whacking enemies, pushing around boxes or rocks, and puzzle solving. There are five distinct areas in the game, from the green hills around Edo (Tokyo) Castle over ghostly underground graveyards to a flying city in the sky. The different areas are made up of five types of stages: Road/action stages, town stage, gate stage, castle stage and Impact stage. The fearsome foursome of Goemon, Ebisumaru, Sasuke and Yae are called in to witness the Wiseman of Iga's latest invention: the super-gorgeous ghost return machine. But the evil nun Bisumaru steals the machine and uses it to resurrect Dochuki, the blue-skinned boss of the underworld. It's again up to Goemon to save the world from certain doom, not to mention a flood of smaller ghosts accidentally released by BisumaruRead full review
My brother and I always took turns playing the first Mystical Ninja game that was released on the N64, and played it multiple times through, as easy as that game was. With this one, we can both play at the same time, and it's quite a bit more difficult (in a fun way though, of course). If you liked the first one, definitely check this one out. If you didn't like or never played the first N64 one, still check this one out! My only complaint is that sometimes it's a little TOO tough--Enemies between gaps you have to jump across (ultimately falling to your demise), certain characters are more adept at navigating certain parts of levels than others, that kinda thing, but it's still a lot of fun.
If you're after a game with something different, this is a worthwhile edition for any N64 collector out there. Set set in Japan, you are to fight through numerous side-scrolling stages with 4 distinct characters (Goemon, Ebisumaru, Sasuke, and Yae.) The games tone and color is bright and enjoyable with a day and night cycle along with different enemies and absurd bosses.

A great game all around. The visuals are very nice for n64 although they have shown signs of aging. The gameplay is quite fun and the multiplayer potential is fantastic. The only gripe I have is that all the crazy japanese songs have been taken out of the US version, but ah, it is either this, or japanese text. Even without the songs it still is a great buy. Definately worth picking up, and it isn't even usually very expensive. Try it out!
You can not go wrong with Goemons' mystical ninja games on Nintendo 64!

I had this game years back, and loved it with the other mystical nija game on n64. I have long left my parents home and since then they were robbed and this game was taken along with many others I had there. I finally got it again and it is just as great as I remember it. Thanks
Never got into this series but I have to admit it looks good, it’s outside the box and quirky. For that i give it love. And you should too
