Reduced Galleon Agena fire - very pleased
Got a stove direct from galleon fires which was reduced due to a little damage. The flame effect is a little 2d looking and is set quite far back in the stove so cant be seen from the sides particularly well but the overall effect is nice. For the money and given the simplicity of the mechanism it seems a good compromise between flame effect and low maintenance / long service life. I believe the optimist systems need refilling regularly and are prone to failure - none of those issues here. It is a fairly simple flame effect which is projected onto a flat surface which gives a somewhat 2d effect but on first glance could indeed be mistaken for a real fire.
The stove itself is cream painted MDF which is a little odd but you cant really tell from a distance - it is decent thick wood and is finished very well. It also means you can repaint it should you need to or should you fancy a different colour. The fan is quiet in use and the heat it can put out is plenty sufficient for most requirements as supplemental heating. I specifically wanted one with a remote which was why I got this fire (was the cheapest fire with a remote I could find). The remote works well and is very convenient - shame they couldn't have disguised the remote sensor on the fire better though.
I have the fire in front of the radiator in my bedroom so it is almost like a hydronic heater just using the fan alone when the radiator is on to circulate the radiator heat better.
The fan unit at the bottom is a little obvious and as another review mentioned, there is a small amount of light that flickers from the back when the flame effect is on but that could be covered if it's a problem - doesn't bother me personally.
The stove I bought was reduced because there was a small split in the MDF base - for the price I paid, I am very pleased. It was sent quickly and well packed too.
