I'm reading all the Merrily Watkins books in order and, half way through this one, I'm finding it just as gripping and complex as the others. Phil comes up with some off beat metaphors and similes which are sometimes startling but are always spot on. His characters are distinctive and often memorable and his use of real places and events, not always disguised, give an extra layer of apparent realism despite the creepy subject matter. I took a trip recently, to Hereford and Ludlow, to explore some of his settings and will go again (not after dark)
Thanks Phil, for these excellent books and for your visits to our (now closed) bookshop in Moreton-in-Marsh.
