The walk passes through the mountainous area of the country, and at one point reaches the foot of Snowdon itself. On the whole, though, the Pilgrim's Way is more a test of perseverance, and many stretches pass along river banks, through woodland, across fields and along the coastal path.

  • Good as a walking guide, less good as a pilgrimage guide

The ever-expanding Kittiwake series are good bright and clear books setting out walks. The directions are good, and the maps fairly good. But this particular book is or should have been a little different (or explained why it was not) in that it covers a pilgrimage route and not just another walk. I would have welcomed a lot more about, for example, its history as a pilgrimage route, and more details of the spiritual side--such as the churches en route. Also.the map on the cover seems to indicate an alternative route via Caernarfon--but there is nothing about it in the text.
