Why won't they die...
Bought and read whole trilogy.
Every character is the same - all their character, portrait and growth during story can be summed up in single words. "Brave, hero, handsome." "Smart, villain, handsome." "Brave, female hero, handsome." You know, screw that, everyone is brave, handsome and more cliche than Johnny Bravo. Villains are villainous, they have shadowy plots that they promise to unravel some day to achieve some result once and for all, again and again. Every one of them is most important thing in galaxy that doesn't matter a one bit. As everyone appears in book already totally super awesome and proceeds that way, there is no difference which adventure comes after which - nothing changes.
And death, oh boy, the death... This is galaxy of immortals. Even ignoring SW classics about stormtrooper aim, this is new level. This is how we fought when we were five - "I shoot you with lasers!" "But, but, I jump really high on roof and avoid them." "I call for flying machines and they shoot you." "Yeah, but there is this tower and I shoot them down from there." "More flying machines." "I steal one and kill rest." "Well, there is this mega ship that can hit anything and it kills you." "Yeah, I fall down from sky, but I am really, really tough, so I survive." To hell with that. Every person is immortal. One robot mentioned there is immortal. I think there was only one spaceship that has some kind of name and persistence, and, yeah, it's immortal. People get forgotten, abandoned, thrown in prisons, tortured and shot, and they will shake it off.
!!! SPOILERS BELOW !!!
Oh, and almost forgot love. All you need is love, they said, and oh boy, did they do it. Main hero loves her son, her former husband (presumed dead, then resurrected, then almost killed again and then I stopped giving a Farkle about what happens) and also Wedge Antilles, rebellion, new republic, her duty and her team... Poor Wedge, by the way, in this universe he's limping old man, watching over storehouse or something. And we have sexy bounty hunter and sexy republic commando, both of them awesome, both of them loving each other and their jobs and their loyalties, and I don't even remember, if they stayed together or not. Hmm, but that's by book two, we have book three as well - screw that, let's have another one, and let's have obligtory gay character, who loves some kind of hacker who does something important and (of course) gets kidnapped, tortured, presumed killed but not really, because, yeah, of course.
You know what, go read Thrawn trilogy. I think this was declared to be cannon, but I couldn't give any less damn about this. I wanted more of the same original trilogy, here I got Mexican soap opera, because there is no real reason to stop at book three - why not go for 1 book per each week between Episode VI and VII? Hell, we could make it two books per week, if we make them all fly around really fast and heal up with some super healing... SuperHealer! :)
