  • Absolutely riveting & horrific.

Brings the domestic violence issue starkly into focus. I would never have believed how awful these situations can become. Though I understand that this particular story is extreme in its intensity and violence, it in no way takes away the horror and disgust you feel toward an individual who behaves like this toward the mother of his children, It also opens up the readers eyes to the authorities response to the poor victims who have been manipulated into a dire position of vulnerability by calculating partners. Despite the unfolding and unremitting horror of this book it is very difficult to put it down. You are compelled to keep turning the pages, perhaps in the hope of a turn in fortune for the victim, escape or rescue maybe, but putting the book down is not an option. I finished the book and was left shocked and profoundly upset that abusers walk amongst us in society who perpetrate this behaviour against their partner which can be dismissed with a shrug of the shoulders as “ their own fault” or “ why don’t they leave then ?” And this book explains how we should never ignore these poor people and leave them to their terrible fate. I would urge everyone to read this book to help society get a better understanding of victims of domestic violence and the dynamics of the manipulation and domination that go with it. Mandy, the author of this book, has become an advocate and campaigner for the rights of domestic abuse victims and bringing the subject into the public eye through tireless work. This is an ending which not “happy” in the conventional sense gives you some hope for the future of the author and her family. This book will leave you drained when you put it down but it will make a difference in the way you think of this subject.
