What a cracking book! recently I went back to what I call "Hard" science fiction, namely spaceships and laser guns instead of the usual science fantasy worlds of dragons and magic. So this was the last of three books, but not really a trilogy as the middle book ("The ghost brigades") left the characters from the first book mostly entirely and introduced a new one who also plays a very important part in the last book. The first book; "Old man's war" told the story of how the two main characters got together, although to a background of war and destruction, so if you want to read these books, start at the start! So the three main characters are together in the third and final book, and off they go, into outer space to take charge of a new colony on a new world. But there are games being played here and beyond, I don't want to say "Politics" because that might put you off, but there's plenty of action, some clever concepts and plenty of humour, which you don't tend to get in hard S/F. And quite possibly the best ever last sentence in a book. Ever. Thanks John: it was an amazing journey and I loved every word of it.Read full review
