new technolgy- blah
Guess I'm use to the old d104 mics made out of metal and excellent quality. This mic , like every thing else now days, is all plastic Got good reports on it but scratches when keying up. Saw a youtube video on this , told about spraying inside keying switch with wd-40. I tried this, seemed to help. I would recommend it , but its not old school !Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Horrible looks, excellent functionality.
It sounds great on the air. Has great sensitivity. But the manufacturing quality is not that great. I didn't have any problems with the PTT button as some have stated, but all the stickers were out of place. The bottom sticker overlapped the small gain control knob and i had to peel it off and replace it to make adjustments. Also the astatic logo sticker on the front was crooked. The battery bay door doesn't like to seat properly. Bottom line, it functions great, but it looks horrible and extremely cheap.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Not what i thought
Astatic has been making desk Mic for over 50 years and I thought it would sound good but not so much. It's a good desk mic and works great but ptt switch is scratchy and mic has a high pitch tiny like audio. That's just not for me. Good luckVerified purchase: YesCondition: New

Reasonably priced powered desk mic delivers good audio volume and clarity.
Very happy with my Astatic 878DM. Once I changed the plug to suit my radio, I had good reports of audio quality,audio volume and clarity. Have read that others have had issues with the PTT switch, but so far, have not had any problems with mine, working just fine. Works well on some radios
Needed to do more research on its compatibility with the radios I have. Works great on my Ranger X-9 but low audio no matter how its adjusted on my Lincoln 2. No reports on its audio of my Quad 6 as I haven't tested it since the 2nd 1 arrived.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Nice desk mic for the money
Good adjustable gain mic. Some people tell me it sounds a bit tinny (lacks bass) but modulation is good. I am using this on a 2M FM transceiver. The only "knock" I would give it is that the plastic housing feels very light and "cheesy." A more substantial casing would give it a solid 5!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

I got a bad one...
Microphone arrived defective: push-to-talk switch stuck down after letting go each time. Had to be pried up so I could hear the others. Out Performs the other Mics
I really like the AST-878DM mic. It seems well built, with the exception of the battery compartment which needs some revision, but will be fine if you are careful with its.
