I have in the past placed a toaster on its side to do cheese toasties (NOT recommended - as the heat rises towards the sides instead of the opening - as designed). This device allows you to do it upright and has a drip tray at the bottom to catch any run-out. So slice of bread sprinkled with finely diced onion, overlay with sliced or grated cheese then sprinkle onions on top add second slice of bread and clamp in the cage and enjoy when the magic of radiant heat has done its business - MMMmmmmmmm!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Used the cage with thins not normal bread, toasted the thin inside and out very lightly, then fill with tuna mayo with egg or cheese, place back in the cage and toast once again for a few mins, thins are very delicious and crispy a good healthy option.
