About this product

Product Information

This micro sized guitar tuner clips right on to the headstock of your guitar, bass, mandolin or other similar stringed instruments. It's specially calibrated to pick up the frequencies from the headstock in order to ensure accurate tuning, even in noisy environments. The compact size means that you can leave it on your instrument, even when you place it back in its case at the end of the rehearsal or gig.

    Essential equipment

These are my standard fit on all guitars and mandolin. They are reasonably fast and consistent. The viewing window id not as large as the older version, and I have no use for a soundless metronome.. One improvement I would like Plane Waves to consider is a transparent front clip so that the logo of one's instrument isn't obscured.

  • Most critical review

Faint and difficult to use in Noisy environment Good enough otherwise.

This is the second headstock tuner I have bought. Won't be buying another. At home its fine but if you take the guitar into a noisy hot environment such as an open mic (drums, noodling) it reacts as much to the noise as the strums. Also this one is quite sensitive and doesn't show much range so one tweak the wrong way and you are off the scale. Finally this one is very dark so its difficult to see. For the record either my polytune (wired) or my tronical tuner work well in these environments...

  • Planet Waves - clip onm tuner.

I use these and previous model on all my instruments. I tried the soundhole tuner but found it unusable on stage as it goes dark unless right on tune, so bought this fir a new instrument. Blurb says: While the features grew, the size of the NS Mini just got smaller…introducing the NS Micro Headstock Tuner. The NS Micro offers improved accuracy, faster response, expanded calibration range, visual metronome mode and an improved ratchet design. I want fast and accurate tuning. Don't want anything but A-440 don't want metronome and new clip is not as easy to use as original. BTW - the clip should be transparent so as not to blank out guitar/mando logos - but it works, and is small.

  • Discreet tuning aid

This might be small but it is very very good. I keep it tucked under where the knut is. My Hofner beatle bass is authentic, but has a habit of going out of tune so this little gizmo lets me know when adjustment is needed. It also has a metronome which can be handy. I'm going to get one for my mate who has terrible trouble keeping time. xxx Ron

  • Nice neat tuner.

This is the third of this tuner I have bought. The previous two were the older model with just the green display. All work well, and also work on the banjolele, which many other tuners don't. The clip secures nicely to the headstock. Nothing but positive comment from me.

  • Tuner works well

Product good but I was expecting it to have a metronome as picture(mode button) and description seem to indicates this. I have mislaid my original one and find rather useful for practicing my bagpipes when out and about. No mode button on one supplied, please see my picture.

  • Functional and compact

All the usual functions but in a really compact little body which can be hidden behind a guitar headstock and won't get knocked off. The screen can be inverted if required. (There is also another version which uses a machine head screw to fix totally behind the headstock).

  • A cheapish ok disposable tuner

It's small light and cheapish. Made of cheap plastic, fiddly to change from headstock to headstock sizes and find the on/off switch easily. It functions really well for what its meant to do and is a bit cheaper than the many slightly more superior designs.

  • Small and accurate.

Small, unobtrusive to the point of being invisible if used on the back of the guitar. It is very accurate. The letters can be inverted according to how you use it which is useful. On the downside it looks a bit cheap and plasticy The clamping mechanism is a bit weak and it can fall off if bumped. Another plus though is battery life seems very good. All in all I would buy another.

  • Hits the right note.......every time!

Not sure whether it is enjoyable! but it is easy to use.......however I have double sided taped it inside my carbon fibre Emerald Amacus short 12 string guitar, having first cut off the clip. I've checked the tuning once and it is great. It is chromatic, so no selection for the instrument being tuned......a doddle......as long as you know your instruments' tuning of course! It is worth the 8x cost of a cheap tuner and I recommend it.
