Fluval 206 Canister Filter Review
This Fluval 206 Canister Filter is another in a series of "outside the tank" canister filters for aquariums. This model is distinguished from earlier models because of its design to be more leakproof than prior Fluval filters. Most Fluval filters have 2 or 3 or 4 compartments which allow the use of various types of filter media to help keep the water as clean and pure as possible. The filter media consists of polishing pads, charcoal, and other various substances. Experimentation leads to the best combination of the media. One nice feature is the ability to disconnect the filter for routine cleaning while leaving the hoses in place by the use of the connection on the top of the future. It would be nice if Fluval would design a handle on the top of the filter to carry the filter from the tank to the sink for the maintenance. As such, always carry the filter by the bottom to avoid any damage to the filter canister. It still requires attention at least monthly on average. As such, it is probably one of the best filters on the market for its purpose. .Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Fluval 206 canister
Expect one to last about five years, the main oring seal between the canister & head motor will need to be replaced in 2 years, the flow control valve every year. This is a fairly good quality canister with serious flow valve issues. If you do a weekly cleaning, the red flow valve will break off one day. I change the flow valve every year. Doing a good job
This was very easy to set up and get running. I have a Fluval hanging filter on a 20 gallon tank that is cycling and my nitrite levels are through the roof. I have been doing daily 25% changes and the nitrite spikes right back up. I added the Fluval 206 to the aquarium (keeping the hanging filter in place because it has the bacteria from the cycle process), and finally I see the nitrite reduce after running for 12 hours.
