Hair-thin linework to wide area fills, smooth and reliable with incredible control. This is the best brush pen I've ever used. To be fair, I've only worked with three altogether; the Pentel standard which everybody has used, and another I picked up years ago made by some company I can't recall. I *thought* I liked the Pentel and that I simply lacked the skill to use it effectively. But after just a few seconds with the Kuretake... "A good craftsperson doesn't blame their tools". Yeah, except when it's perfectly valid to do so! I still use other brushes for "broad stroke" work, but for fine control, nothing beats the Kuretake. I really like how I can just put the cap on and put it in my pencil case without worrying about leaks or having it dry out, -even after weeks of not using it. -Think about that! -That's a BIG deal! I'm amazed at how far pen engineering has come since the days of expensive rapidographs and other liquid ink well pens which would dry out and die if you let them sit for even a few days! I used my first Kuretake #8 for a couple of years, inked many pictures and took great care to maintain the brush fibers, but finally felt that it wasn't performing as nicely as it had when I first received it. -This might be due to the fact that I started re-filling the cartridges with other ink. -I bought big pen refills for another brush pen which carried several times the quantity of ink, and it might have been thicker and less suitable for the Kuretake design but it's hard to say. Anyway; I bought a second one, and it turns out my perceptions were spot on. The new one is excellent, and the line quality is top notch. But the first lasted for a long time, and I really got my $12 worth, or whatever it was I spent originally. The only drawbacks to this pen are that the cartridges empty quickly, and they're a pain to find; you basically must order them from Japan. I don't think I'll mess around with alternative inks again in spite of the cost and inconvenience; best to stick with the formulation that the pen was designed around. The other thing I found was that the stylus body is.., really long. I actually sawed off a couple of inches from the end so that it would fit in my pencil case! (That's not a real complaint; just an observation.) I did note that before I sawed off the end, that you can fit a spare cartridge right in the 'tail section'. That's kind of neat. If it fit with my other backpack art tools. :) Anyway... This is an excellent inking pen, portable or otherwise, and if you do any sort of comics illustration, especially if you like to be portable and draw away from the studio, then you would be super-well served in owning one of these. This is easily one of my top favorite tools I've come across after 20+ years of pro illustration. Cheers!Read full review

Tombow does it again. Very good results with very flexible brush. Need to learn more control to use it to its fullest ability. If you are just learning brush lettering try the HARD tip version first.

So far, they are what was advertised. I was stoked to see a pack of three hard tip pens at a good price. I have only opened one up as I don’t want to let the other two dry out and so far it’s the tomboy fudenosuke pen I know and love. Great shipping as well.

This is my first brush pen, after seeing so many reviews about how good they are. I decided to buy a pack, and yes they are great to begin with and in general! Very thin to thick strokes reminds me of my flex fountain pen nib!

As a beginner in hand-lettering, maybe I could use the hard version of this pen easier, but I still like this one. It arrived in perfect condition.
