At this price level, the ASP880 is in a class of its own when it comes to flexibility and sonic quality. The Audient pre-amps add a truly professional touch to recorded tracks, and allow the inherent character of the connected microphones to shine through. Experimenting with the ASP880's switchable input impedances when using ribbon microphones can be both an interesting and a revealing exercise. Having a fully-balanced insert loop on each of the 8 channels allows compressors or other effect units to be added during tracking (insert I/O is via 25-way D connectors), as well as the ability to bring in the outputs of other pre-amps directly to the ASP880's great converters. I find it hard to do anything other than recommend this unit in the highest terms.
