drivers from dvd don't work on 5ghz
out of the box, it only works 2.4ghz. I knew because it wasn't picking up my 5ghz router or any of my neighbors while my phones/tablets can. It's because drivers from dvd don't work properly. You have to download latest driver from mediatek website to use the 5ghz feature. Use device manager to check if drivers up to date.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

It was disappointed product
I have bought this Alfa Wireless USB adapter to use with Kali Linux on VM. First it didn't work at all with my work laptop "Dell Latitude E5540" i have tried so many software versions, tricks and tweaks none of them work and they actually missed up my windows and i had to do a recovery!!! It did work on my home laptop "Dell Inspiron N5110" however when i used it it turn out to be not as good as i thought it failed to capture the handshake that we need to crack the password! When i loaded my laptop with a live version of Kali (from a USB adapter) my build in wireless work a LOT better and was able to capture the handshake easily. So it really depend on the use you have for this adapter .. if you are purchase it for use with Kali Linux for Penetration tests DON'T BUY IT. I read a post online that says this is the best USB Wireless that can capture the handshake "Alfa AWUS036NHA" however i did not try it myself if that post is correct i would suggest purchasing that one! An Excellent WiFi Adapter
In-brief, the ALFA Network wifi adapter which I bought for a friend and neighbor VASTLY improved his wi-fi speed and connectivity to the local wifi routers, especially works excellent with an Archer C7 router (802.11n - dual band). I hugely recommend this adapter - the software driver(s) loaded onto a Windows-7 computer flawlessly! Works good w/ Kali 2.0
I made a pentesting for our offices (Kali 2.0, Aircrack-ng / Reaver / Wifite / Mdk3), many issues were found and fixed (like activated WPS PIN, weak passwords and so on). Works well after apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade w/ default drivers (rt2800usb).
