Ok For Small Tasks
Having owned this now for a few weeks, I feel I can give this product an honest review.
Essentially, it is what it looks like it is - a small, manual, lightweight log splitter. Having said this though, it feels very solid and well built. It easily splits my small logs and timber, and feels comfortable for this purpose, but when faced with a hefty substantial log, (still within the quoted size parimiters), it is simply not up to the job. The cutting blade just wedges into the wood, and you can feel the rack and pinion splitting mechanism just "skipping" over each other, forcing you to release any pressure for fear of breaking the machine.
I now find myself having just purchased an electric log splitter to do the job that this one cannot, and it does it with such simplistic ease.
Would I recommend? Well yes, I would. Despite the main issue mentioned above, I still find myself using my manual splitter for small lightweight tasks, and due to its slightly more delicate nature, it is excellent for splitting your own kindling, a task for which I have it sitting on my work bench where I actually operate the foot pedal with my hand. Am I going to cut my losses and sell it on now I have an electric splitter? No, as I still find this useful for these smaller tasks.
The simple thing to remember is that it is just a foot operated splitter with a 1 tonne splitting force, compared to 5 tonne + for its electric cousin. Bear this in mind, and you won't go far wrong . If you only need it for small jobs, and occasionally splitting small logs, then I would highly recommend, but for regular splitting of large logs, then it has to be an electric splitter with a much larger capacity.
