  • Most critical review

OK, good value, not for professional use, no cutter for the tape is kind of annoying.

This works ok, its hard to use it for me because I've used a real banjo, and it seems hard to clean. It doesn't seem very solid, and its made of plastic. This would be ok for one room but it's definitely NOT a professional tool.

  • Well worth the Investment

I am a part-time Handyman, and recently picked up a job finishing drywall for a very picky customer. I began the job with the good old-fashioned method of embedding the tape in mud, but since I was going to be finishing over 150 sheets of drywall with lots of corners, angles, etc. I decided to investigate the purchase of this Homax taping tool, especially since I also have a 12 X 20 office to tape in a couple of weeks. I expected there to be a somewhat steep learning curve since I'd never used a tool like this before, but the truth is that it is very straightforward to use, and I was able to fly with it. It made me wish I had purchased a pair of stilts as well and that I had a helper so that one guy could run the machine, and the next guy could clean up the tape joints. But it was easily three or four times faster than the way I was doing it, and so far I have had nothing but a good experience with it. You have to get used to the weight of the machine, not because it is heavy, but because it will help you recognize when it's time to reload the machine with tape. The homeowner has been thrilled at the fast progress. It seems to take a beating pretty well. Once I bumped it off the top of a four foot step ladder. It landed flat on its side, but took the fall well. The next time someone bumped it off a three foot ledge, and when it fell, it then rolled part way down the stairs, but took another four foot fall loaded with mud, but still it took the fall just fine. If you have much drywall taping to do. This tool is worth the cost, even for corners, though doing corners means you have to use your free hand to push the tape into the corner as you move along the wall. It's a little messy, but doing drywall taping usually is messy. The key is to thin the mud to the correct consistency which isn't hard. Once you have it to the right thickness, you can really move with this thing and you will find that taping actually becomes enjoyable. If it broke, I would be sure to buy another because it really has been invaluable in the projects I have used it for.

  • Lightweight with great features

Easy to use with light pasting material. The sharp round wheel makes it easy to apply the tape both in the ceiling and on walls.

  • Homeowners special

The banjo was easy to use, & effective on walls. It did not perform as well on ceilings. Scissors had to be used to cut the tape, which was a pain. The banjo did not :track" the seams as well as was hoped, but when properly adjusted made taping quick & easy. Being plastic, it would not hold up as well as the aluminum (more expensive kind.

  • Time saver

This works much better than expected. Once you understand how to cut it with your drywall knife it is easy. I set up planking a 2 foot for an 8 foot ceiling and blew it out. Worth the money and then some.

  • Great Product !!

This is such a great time saver. It's light weight, easy to use. Much better than the $100.00 aluminum one i returned to lowes.

  • Great product

Once you get use to this wow what a time saver. I was skeptical when buying this but after I taped an entire ceiling in about 30 minutes I was convinced. I had no problems with the knob as others have reported. Excellent value for consumer grade.

  • Great product.

My first time using this, I got my mud a little thin, added more premixed to it so it would just pour then it worked just great. Even with the learning curve, I still got 250 feet of tape nicely installed in 1 hour.

  • Homex 6500

It's great if you have a lot of joints to tape, but here's a lot of mess to clean up, so it doesn't make sense for a small job. You can get about 60' of tape before you need to refill the mud reservoir.
