Great First Bench!
Well I've been after a small carpentry bench for some time and although this is not exactly what I had in mind, I needed something quickly for use as a starter bench and to get some immediate projects done and dusted. This is just what I was after; it's small and reasonably well made for the price and is a massive step up from the workmate I was struggling with. It is also very easy to put together if you're used to putting flat pack furniture together, but it would still be fairly easy even if you were a bit of a novice. I would recommend this as a good product for starters but it does have limitations. It is a bit wobbly because of it's narrowness and I have stiffened mine up with a timber strut on the back. I will ultimately move towards something larger, sturdier and more professional but I will keep this bench as it's always useful to have extra work surfaces in your shed/shop. I would recommend this product for those with limited space and realistic expectations and the service from the suppliers was excellent. Just OK for the money
This bench is ok for very light work such as model making or balsa-type crafts. Once you start to put any weight behind your efforts like planing or sawing then it does I'm afraid show its limitations. It just rock and rolls all over the place. I had to screw the legs to the floor and butt and screw one end to my existing "sturdy" bench. Vices are handy unless you want to hold something good and firm because once you apply the pressure needed the bench will try to pull itself apart. Not up to the job
I should have known that you get what you pay for and this workbench is just not up the rigours of carpentry work. It is far too light and so when hand planing or sawing the whole thing moves about with the inevitable consequences on the accuracy of your work. The vices do not pull evenly and parallel and feel like they will break if over tightened. I'm considering bracing the thing with extra timber and ply braces and anchoring it to the ground with bolted brackets and if this doesn't work it will end up as kindling on my fire!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
