Portable scanner that's easy to use and has great features.
Surprisingly almost identical to my early 90s Radio Shack Pro-51, but with the advantage of double the channel capacity and the ability to program with my laptop. Affordable ARC404 programming software and separate USB cable are not included but are readily available at a reasonable cost. (about $55 for both) However the unit is not difficult to program manually. It covers Marine, Police/Fire, Aircraft, Amateur/Ham Operators (6 and 10 meter bands), Weather, and Skywarn. It does not have Alpha Tagging but if you use it often enough, you'll start to recognize the style/dispatchers of the agencies.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Refurbished

A good radio but with second hand issues
I like the radio but it is unfortunately showing scratches and signs of wear. It is also missing a 9V power supply (not a problem as it would need a 13A plug for the UK), disappointingly missing the yellow battery holder for use with re-chargeable batteries and the instruction manual. Otherwise, it seems to work OK and, with the programming cable (that I already have), now has has been programmed with all of my favourite frequencies. The yellow battery holder for re-chargeable batteries has now been ordered from Whistler at great expense. Excellent Scanner especially for the price

This scanner is a bit complicated to use, the biggest problem being that the owner's manual is extremely poor at explaining how the device works.
