Great value for money
I normally buy Panasonic TVs but decided to go with LG for my upgrade to 4K. The decision was purely made on value for money and the fact that LG allow you to download apps from their store. The image quality is stunning, though I have noticed a slight cast when viewed at an angle. As we don't generally have to view at an angle, this doesn't really affect our enjoyment.
One great thing that I wasn't aware of was the low internet speed that allowed 4K on Netflix. I was of the opinion that I was going to need around 20-25mbps (which I don't have) but in fact Netflix jumps up to 4K at just 7.6mbps, so if you're getting that you too can watch 4K. The TV has a useful 'info' button where you can see the broadband speed and TV resolution. Very handy.
Overall I couldn't be happier - the TV does everything I want and the quality of the image you see is more determined by the resolution it was shot at rather than the TV. The reality is TVs are currently way ahead of the broadcasters. I believe the BBC is going to make Blue Planet 2 available on iplayer in 4K once the series has finished but other than that there's not much 4K around outside Netflix and Youtube (which doesn't have much good stuff).
The upshot is, if you need a 50" 4K TV under £500 I could not recommend a better one.
