I bought second set.
The bookends are a little light to hold a serious amount of book-weight, but for a young child, they will do nicely, except for the second issue. The quality is OK for an adult, but there is a design flaw (weak spot) where the top of the kneeling soldier's hand meets the flag pole. The first set of used ones I bought had a broken flag pole.
