Citizen goes upscale with the Grand Classic line
Citizen finally decided to go upscale by modifying their rock solid Miyota 9000 series movements and installing them with the Citizen name in top drawer bodies. This is the most affordable Grand Classic automatic. It lists for $995, but can be had on Ebay for less than half that if you are lucky. The movement is a proven Miyota 9000 series movement that beats (ticks) at 28,800. That's the same speed as the Grand Seiko, the venerable ETA 2824-2, and even Rolex. Miyota movements are used my a number of independent watch makers and they have proven to be solid performers. The case and bracelet are machined and finished beautifully. The dial is multi-finished brushed silver with applied chrome markers and blued hands that clearly stand out. The bracelet links are solid with screw in links instead of the cheaper pins. The second hands sweeps at 8x a second making it indistinguishable from a higher end Swiss automatic. Cheaper movements beat at 21,600 or 6x a second--noticeably jerkier. The watch has a display back revealing the movement which has a modified weight and a lot more finishing detail than the base Miyota 9000 series movements. It looks impressive, especially when you take it off to show your friends. The Grand Signature line is hard to beat for the money.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned
