Competing rain gauges!
I bought my first longterm rain gauge about 10 years ago. I liked it so well I bought one for my son. He lives 1/2 mile down the road. After each rain we text each other the amount. Sometimes I win sometimes he does. These gauges are very accurate. We had a monster hail storm, mid July, and both our gauges were broke. I reordered new ones for both of us right away so we could keep competing. I highly recommend them. The cost is worth it. They are well built. They won't hold up when you get golf ball size hail and 60 70 mph winds for 2 hours. Of course we had a lot of damage to our homes. At least we have been able to keep track of the rain. Easy to use and very accurate.
The rain gauge was easy to install on a fence post and has been very accurate. The materials are a good quality but only time will tell. I've had the gauge up for about 3 months with no problems. It is easy to clean and doesn't require any special tools. I use a bottle brush that is normally used on tubing for aquariums. The humidity will sometimes build up and fog up the outer tube which makes it difficult to read the rainfall without taking the tube out. That's not an issue because I empty it every day a 6 - 7 a.m. to keep a record of the rainfall amounts. I haven't posted to the group but I may do that at some point. The inner tube records rainfall up to 1". Rainfall in excess of 1" overflows the inner tube into the outer one. If you do have water in the outer tube, you are instructed to dump the first 1" out and then pour the contents of the outer tube into the inner one. My wife was always asking how much rain we got and now I can tell her. There are alot of microclimates around here and it may rain more on one side of the street than another.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
