    Good but could be better

Product works but requires additional sharpening to be somehow effective. I found it a little wobbly during use because of the blade length. The wooden handle is not strong and has rough edges. The handle would be safer if made of rubber or rounded wood with hole to insert metal and then bolted. The metal will be more stronger, firmer and better stability during use if the length is reduce slightly.

  • Most critical review

    Rough finish but effective

This is a cheap device that works, but the quality of the finish was not good. Rough edges to the metal parts meant that I had to file and repaint them to improve the finish and prevent rusting. I also sharpened the blade to improve the performance. But it is a cheap device and represents good value.

  • Very pleased to find these

I had one of these for about twenty years until it met with an accident. A wonderful tool which I very much missed so I was really pleased to find these ones. Slightly shorter than my old one but otherwise very similar. A bit late in the year (August) as the thistles & nettles have become 'woody' but nevertheless, the slasher works well, just slower than if the plants were younger. These slashers were never designed to cut soft grass so are NOT sharp. When docks, thistles & nettles are younger, you can really get into a rhythm, swinging it from side to side in one hand, each edge cutting through stems as you go. I am delighted to find that in the spring I will be able to rid the place of a lot of ground elder too. Thoroughly recommended, but not for grass.

  • WORKS WELL BUT HANDLE POORLY FINISHED

THE TOOL IS VALUE FOR MONEY, AND DOES THE JOB, THE METAL BLADE IS GOOD QUALITY, BUT THE WOODEN HANDLE WAS ROUGH, IT IS IN TWO HALVES (EACH SIDE OF METAL PART) HELD WITH RIVETS, ONE OF THE RIVETS WAS NOT TIGHT. HAD TO SAND HANDLE DOWN, FILL GAPS AND COVER WITH TAPE

  • Have a good slash

Does exactly what it claims - It slashes weeds and grass. I honed the cutting edges for a few inches each side of the bend, and I repeat the prescription occasionally. I use a cigar-shaped hone that I bought on eBay years ago; a half-round file or some tough abrasive paper wrapped round a bit of broomstick would serve. To use The Slasher effectively, swing it forcefully from side to side in front of you, aiming to graze the ground in mid-swing, and the weeds and the grass will vanish before you, as the sea parted before Israel. Be careful - Check all around you on the ground and in the air for brambles, ground elder, tree branches, fences and any other obstructions that will catch or deflect the blade onto your person.

  • Cheap but effective

Sharpen the blade both sides with a metal file, wrap some gaffer tape around the crude handle, then slash any like a deranged golfer swinging both ways to maximise energy efficiency and well it is very effective for such a small outlay. A lot quieter and more environmentally friendly than a petrol strimmer.... Lovely job.

  • Wobbly handle and rough

The handle is has much gap between the two pieces of wood making it difficult to grip. After one use it became loose.

  • Good value for money.

Surprisingly good quality for the price paid. Just the job for occasional clearing of nettles and thistles from overgrown paths. Can cut back bramble growth too, although tougher to get through. I sharpened the edges of mine to give an improved cut. Probably not suitable for clearing large areas, more just the margins of paths or verges.

  • Effective

Pleasantly surprised at the easy work it made of some overgrowth. The handle takes a little time to get used to but it is effective.

  • Safe and Simple to Use

Because the slasher does not have a very sharpened edge to it, this give one the opportunity to use the tool either handed. It easily cuts through small saplings, brambles and weeds. Some very clumpy coarse grasses are hard work but generally, the Slasher deals well with ordinary grass. I have two machetes, but these are heavy by comparison and very much more dangerous to use. I find the slasher perfect to carry with me when clearing paths in the wood.
