The Eagle (230V to 110V) 300W UK to USA Step-down Voltage Converter Transformer is a transformer fitted inside a conveniently-sized plastic case, which makes it convenient for carrying. The Eagle (230V to 110V) 300W UK to USA Step-down Voltage Converter Transformer is a transformer and therefore it works as a transformer should work. You plug the input plug in to a UK 230 Volt alternating current (AC) mains socket, plug a USA appliance, into the USA-style output socket and switch the transformer by setting the red-coloured ON/OFF switch to the "ON" position. The red pilot lamp built into the ON/OFF switch will light to indicate that the transformer is operating correctly and providing the required 110 Volt alternating current (AC) output. I have only used the Eagle (230V to 110V) 300WEagle (230V to 110V) 300W UK to USA Step-down Voltage Converter Transformer for a relatively short period of time and therefore I cannot provide any information regarding the long-term reliability of the Eagle (230V to 110V) 300W UK to USA Step-down Voltage Converter Transformer. At the back of the plastic case, on the outside of the case, are plastic supports, around which the mains input cable can be wound when not in use. DO NOT use it. I had an identical Eagle (230V to 110V) 300W UK to USA Step-down Voltage Converter Transformer, and winding the mains cable around the plastic support put a strain on the cable, which caused the mains cable to fracture inside the plastic outer sheathing. This caused the Eagle (230V to 110V) 300W UK to USA Step-down Voltage Converter Transformer to stop working and it took a great deal of time to locate the fault and rectify it by replacing the entire mains input cable, including rewiring it into the internal components of the Eagle (230V to 110V) 300W UK to USA Step-down Voltage Converter Transformer. I am a qualified Chartered Electrical Engineer, but I found it very difficult to remove the outer case in order to make the repair; the plastic case is held in place by four very difficult to remove, unnecessarily long screws.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Great value and works very nicely.
Purchased this neat item to power old vintage US made guitar amps of various sizes that I get in for repair occasionally. So far, I've only tried with a little Fender Champ, with which this worked perfectly: not noisy, voltages were correct, etc. Will surely cope with a larger size US Valve/Tube amp easily up to say, 80W output power and probably then some (but remember, they are not very efficient, so a 300W rated converter is not overkill, but sensible). Earth continuity goes from input to output as does the Neutral terminal. The Live/Line terminal is stepped down by 50% via the autotransformer. There is no isolation wth an autotransformer, just insulation. The cable tidy at the back is a nice idea but is the only bit that looks like it might break off over time.
