It's fine, but you shouldn't need it- I was more than a little irritated to find I needed this shim to be able to use the posh Park tool I already had on my fancy new Ultegra BB. The shim itself is fine- it's plastic being used between 2 metal parts, so it's going to get chewed up, but then I guess it would cost more if it was metal and it does what it says on the tin-the real irritation is that is needed at all.

I bought this item thinking this would be okay to convert my standard bottom bracket tool into one that I could use to remove my 6800. How wrong I was. This thing might as well be made from chocolate as it disintegrated the first time I used it. I suppose I should have known better than to put some soft plastic between two pieces of metal and expect it to work okay. I thought the quality, from a name like Shimano, would be good enough to do the job, oh no. If you need to remove a smaller than standard bottom bracket, like the 6800, then but the correct tool for the job. Buying this is a false economy

You'll need this tool to install certain bottom brackets. It's the only option I know of that's suitable for SM-BBR60 and BB-MT800 bottom brackets. It does the job but it's a plastic adapter that goes between a metal tool and a metal bottom bracket so you have to treat it with care. But it's not like there's an alternative for the bottom brackets its designed for. Note however that this adapter will come with retail packaged bottom brackets. You'll only need to get one separately if you've got an OEM bottom bracket. E.g. if your bike came with BB-MT800 that you need to remove, or you've bought your bottom bracket from an online retailer that sells OEM parts.

As far as I'm aware, this is the only way to get new style 105 or Ultegra BB's on or off. The adaptor just slots into a BB tool and then over the BB itself. Sadly the adaptor is pretty weak and it's very easy to strip the threads on it. Just waiting for someone to make a proper tool to deal with these BB's.

Absolutely no way you can get the required 40Nm of torque with this plastic adapter. I have no idea why shimano manufacture it. You will shred it on 1st use no question.. If you don't then you'll have a BB that is not tight enough
