The original name of this ship was "Will Everard". Built in 1925-1926 for FT Everard & Sons in Great Yarmouth, the "Will" was the last of four boats of 280 tons. The ship was built with a steel hull and was used by the Everard family for over 40 years for the thing navigation along the eastern coast of England, the islands and the sleeve channel. In 1951 a diesel engine was installed, but in 1967 it was decided to put the "Will" out of service. After nine years of rest, the "Will" was purchased in 1976 by Overseas Container Ltd. Since then, the ship sailed in European waters, turning England several times and visiting over 50 ports of the continent - navigating as a living memory of sailing ships of the past and which give an impressive advertising to the shipowners. English, French, Germa.
The word Billings to me meant a wooden kit of quality, up until now I could never afford one, so now I purchased this one to start with as it's a 'Starter kit', I have never had a kit that had such few instructions, very poor building instructions with very few 'completed pictures' of the parts, with very limited instructions as to which parts to use and how to do it, I also found the quality to be very low with one sided moulded plastic parts, if this is one of Billings starter kits then I don't want to even try one of their expert kits, at least not at their prices. I'm not even sure why it is a 'plank on frame' model as it is based on a barge that was made of steel with very little wood used?
this is just a great build experience, because i have not made a model since my teen days, this was a real challenge but read the plans and take your time because you won't make it in ten minutes but the results will be worth it.
