Not a universal mounting plate.
The tuners have a 10mm sleeve to make sure your guitar has the correct sized headstock or you will be reaming it to size. The included ump system did not work on my Yamaha Pacifica 012. The factory holes in the headstock were too far apart to mount more than 2 tuners at a time. They do come with screws and a mounting hole so that is how I had to attach them. It worked but it required drilling new pilot holes and screwing the tuners down. The tuners were staggered and I was able to remove the factory string tree. They are smooth and very precise so tuning to your desired pitch is easy. The locking pins made my string change a breeze. They hold the strings in tight without pinching the thinner strings like my Fender tuners do. High quality fit and finish as well. Beautiful tuners.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Maybe...
I can recommend actual hipshot griplock tuners. I’m not sure these were genuine. They were in a different shaped box, smaller than the ones I’ve gotten before. The screws are junk. I predrilled like I always do and two broke off before I even got close to tight. I’ve literally put hundreds of tuners on guitars so it’s not like I’m just going to randomly forget how tiny those screws are. They were substandard which is the second thing about these which makes them suspect. Tuners seemed ok on cursory look. Great tuners....but...
Great tuners however they need to re-engineer to take the screw hole down 1/8". Extending the "V" with the screw hole would allow a couple things: perfect alignment with screw holes for Gibson Les Paul, SG and other Gibson guitars that have factory Grover Tuners, and - you can better get a screw driver on the screw without butting against the locking wheel. These tuners do keep the strings tuned and I find them a bit better than Grover Locking Tuners. The shafts do fit the headstock where Grover tuners were removed. Did not use the backing plates as they did nothing for the install on a Gibson Les Paul where Grover loving tuners were removed. Not sure on alignment for other guitars - just passing on for those looking for a Les Paul replacement tuner.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

Pro player. Excellent upgrade! Easy install.
10-15 minutes tops to install. Don't tighten down too tight on headstock. The plates work great. No redrilling. I think the plates work better than the holes anyway. These are smooth, great looking, and a good upgrade for any level guitar player. I go through over 100 sets of strings a year. These make the job even faster and your guitar stays in tune great. Husband loves these tuners!
I bought these as a gift to upgrade the squier jazzmaster I bought my husband for Christmas. He had no problem installing the tuners at all - the UMP kit made it easy and quick. Nice tight accurite tuning machines.
Ordered 2 sets to replace tuners on a squier and a cort. I really like them the locking mechenism works well and tuners r smooth and acrurite. I will be putting them on every guitar that needs an uprade. The ump really makes it easy to install took less tyen 15 mins to remove the old ones ajd install and restring with the hipshots. I have the staggard tuners on the squier and noticed the high e string hole is partially hidden by the tuner nut. It wasnt an issue though and works perfect.
