An exciter, also known as a structure-borne sound converter or body shaker, is basically a loudspeaker without a loudspeaker membrane. It essentially consists of 3 components: the oscillating mass, the connection terminal for the electrical connection to the amplifier and the mounting plate for attachment to the installation surface. By applying a signal (eg music or speech signal) to the connection terminal, the oscillatable mass vibrates to the beat of the music. The vibration is transmitted to the mounting plate and passed on to the plate to be excited. The plate excited in this way then emits the music or speech signal.
