Rapid Kinetic X2 - innovation packed in a rear bike light
The CatEye Rapid Kinetic X2 USB Rechargeable LED Rear Bike Light is even better than I thought at first. Is very light, it's very easy to apply below the seat (with an 0-ring), very easy to switch on and off (switch button that also shows on red when it requires charging). The charging process takes about 2 hours. It has 3 working modes, selected by pressing the switch on/off, one time after another in a row: when switched on goes to blinking light, then rapid blinking, then continuous mode. Every time (on each of this working modes) the light (with an internal accelerometer) feels a speed reduction (like braking or equivalent), the light goes steady with a stronger intensity for about 3 seconds... after that period it returns to the previously selected working mode. The blinking mode is the one that saves more battery, then fast blinking and finally the continuous mode. The friends of my bike group were really surprised about how good it worked this process of showing a brake light. :-)
Nice and bright but attachment let's it down a secure frame attachment that allows for secure fitting and ease removing/replacing when bike is unattended like in a shop etc would have completed the item fact attachment is a single rubber band let's the whole thing down. Expected more to be honest and am not impressed it faltered at the last turtle and comes across as cheap.
+ Cycling with a brake indicator especially in city center environment keeps you a lot safer.
- Although not as close to battery times than suggested (4-5H instead of 16 on rapid flashing mode. At that time you only lose the braking function, not the flash).
- Also the braking function is a bit basic.. at every braking you get 2.5 sec of constant light.
Great idea, essential for cycling safety, it will be better in future i guess
