My Flymo power switch failed because my shed roof leaks, and it got wet. The metal parts inside, including delicate things like springs, corroded and failed. This switch is a different colour to my original, which was all black, but otherwise identical. It was easy to replace, made easier by the fact I didn't fully disconnect the old one until I had the new one. There was an external capacitor attached to the old one, and in removing it, I managed to break one of its wires (be careful with this - use a small screwdriver to press back the contact grips inside, instead of just pulling). There was still enough wire for me to re-bend it and use the same capacitor. Two of the mains wires just pull out of the switch block (again, with the help of a small screwdriver), and two have screw connectors. It only took a couple of minutes to replace the switch and capacitor, but putting the switch handle assembly back together was a bit fiddly. If you make note of the wire layout whilst dismantling (and preferably take a photograph), that would make it easier. Back together now, it works a treat! Now I just need to fix the shed roof.Read full review

My friend was given a Flymo but it only started intermittently..after a bit of electrical testing out was all too clear it was a faulty switch. Ordered this replacement, installed it and the Flymo starts like magic...I don't recommend this for a DIY project as two of the wires and the capacitor are push friction fit, so not easy to remove wires from original switch. Supplier sent the item immediately..delighted..JM

Took a punt on switch being the problem with my broken lawnrake, and that this part would rectify. I seem to have got lucky, lawnrake working again. So, fully satisfied (thus far) with this part... hope it lasts. A bit fiddly to replace, but if you follow online videos and take photos before removing the old switch you should get there.

The switch was a perfect replacement and fairly easy to fit although the motor side wires are push fit and virtually impossible to get out without destroying the old switch. But the mower was running well until about 20 minutes later when the motor burnt out. So I now have a brilliant switch but a totally knackered mower. Not the switch's fault but it was a good try. Not sure what the question "was it easy to start" means, it's a switch.

Purchased as a replacement for my hovervac 280.Bit of a gamble as I didn't really know if the switch was the problem. Quite tricky to fit due to push in fittings for wiring but I discovered it is possible to locate the wire without the crimped fitting as one of mine was broken. Did the job as I now have working mower and have therefore saved a lot of money. However you will probably need to buy a new capacitor as this is not included.
