Best of LGA2011; Broadwell
With a nice balance of core count and frequency, this is the best CPU you can get for a server of almost any kind. Few systems support this model, but it is compatible with certain desktop X99 boards.
While the thermal output is higher than most chips, it really only gets hot when used above 50%. The actual electrical power draw is closer to 100W at full load, and peaks at about 115W during utilization of turbo-clock speeds.
From Supermicro, primarily the X10DA* series can use this chip with its 160W TDP. (*might work with other models, but do this at your own risk and expense*)
From Tyan, this CPU is only known to work with S7086 and S5620 boards.
From HP, Dell, and Lenovo, all bets are OFF unless you plan to buy (or already have) one of their obsolete "workstation" systems.
If you can afford this model, or find a deal on it for less than $1,000, get it before it's gone!
