  • A must-read for anyone interested in the great British holiday

If you've ever stayed at a Butlin's holiday resort, this book is a must-read. If you've never stayed at a Butlin's resort, or your only knowledge of the British holiday camp system comes from watching Hi-De-Hi!, this book will tell you everything you need to know. It's an attractively presented, lavishly illustrated, large-format book which lays bare the history of a British institution, from its origins to its glory years, the peaks and troughs which followed, to its modern-day reinvention for the 21st century. Packed with interesting nuggets and priceless photos, such as Laurel and Hardy judging a beauty contest at Butlin's back in 1948. I bought this book after reading Roger Lewis's rave review in the Daily Mail, and I wasn't disappointed!
