    Impossible metal repair!?

It was a job only barely worth doing but I wanted to see if it was possible to do. I have a pair of very ornate, and heavy, spelter urns as part of a garniture feature (a mantle piece decorative feature that accompanies a matching clock). The urns are of Pitcher form with delicate handles one of which had been repaired in the past and had come apart again. Spelter is notoriously difficult to repair. On advice from a silversmith friend experienced in such things he recommended trying Araldite but stressed that it must be the slow curing type as it sets stronger but doubted if it would work. I had two good but small contact points. I drilled small holes to take pins making them loose fitting enough to be able to line up the parts and allow glue down the holes to get a better grip. It appears to have worked and has survived being lifted by the delicate part of the handle by people unaware of the repair. I wouldn't expect it to survive a knock but it is together and serving it's decorative purpose again.

    Product Description error, but OK

The Item that I purchased was NOT the Syringe version, as advertised for comment in this review. However I got the item I ordered and wanted, namely the Standard Heavy Duty Twin Tube pack, which I have not yet tried. I bought this to replace a very old Yellow & Blue twin pack which has served me well over many years, but is now not available. I hope this new product lives up to Araldite's reputation.

  • Simply the best

this product is the best two part Epoxy resin adhesive known to man/woman I have used this over many years to bond all types of materials best results are obtained when cured with heat be it a 240 volt light bulb or in an oven (when the misses is out) it will cure in 20 minutes or less," when cured it says there are no known solvents" it is a little slow to cure without heat 24 hours or so but if you are unable use heat the bond will be just as strong over time

  • Slow Araldite. just the best .

Nice to have a full size Araldite. The tiny tubes also sold are fine for small jobs but might run out . Thia full size slow set type is great because the fast setting stuff stinks the house out . Long live Slow Araldite .

  • An adhesive that has been a reliable standard for many years.

Araldite adhesive has been around for many years, and is used for both domestic and industrial applications. It 'sets' by a chemical reaction between two separate constituents rather than by the evaporation of a base substance. The only drawback is that it takes about 24 hours for the chemical reaction to set, so the joint will probably need to be supported in some way for this period. However there is an Araldite Rapid option (a different product to the Araldite Standard) which will set faster. Providing that the surfaces to be joined are clean and dry, the final joint will probably be as strong as the original material.

  • Does the job nicely

Easy to use, araldite is a product you can rely on to make lasting good repairs. Mixing is easy and there is ample, working time with setting/hardening complete in a matter of hours. My repair was for an outdoor item and I feel that araldite heavy duty will more than manage the job.

  • Still one of the best adhesives ever invented.

Araldite has been around for a long time now and it still is one of the best general purpose adhesives. I use both the Rapid, which is of course good for quick fixes and the Standard which gives you a lot longer to work with the thing you are sticking together before the adhesive starts to set.

  • As good as permanent

When properly mixed Araldite Standard results in a very strong bond on virtually any material. I prefer the long cure time as repositioning or securing in position can be undertaken for an hour or so with no need to rush and therefore there is plenty of time to ensure accuracy. Care should be taken to ensure the work is secured and not able to move during the cure period and leaving overnight normally means a good bond by morning with full strength after 24 hours. Rapid epoxys have their place but best bonding is with standard.
