    Hot enough to solder with

Overall I have put this as good because it gets hot enough to melt the solder and stays hot without having to keep a fierce flame on the tip holder, it feels cumbersome at first but you get used to it really quickly so after couple of soldering tests, you dont notice the size of it so much. The tank lasted a good hour and a half with the burner being turned up and down as needed, but always lit. The only downside that kept the last star in its review is the control for flame size, its a bit hit & miss at first and whilst soldering sometimes the weight of the unitand the way you hold it you can find yourself turning the flame up or down without intent as you adjust your fingers as you are holding the iron. Am I happy with it, yes. Would I recommend it, yes with the caveat that the flame control could be improved.

  • Most critical review

It misses the whole point of getting to the hot subjects!

It's too lightweight and therefore considered unsafe. The large spring to house the iron is of the wrong design and should be a simple metal cone as it's so annoyingly easy to 'park' the tip of the iron through the spring coil. The cleaning sponge is a postage size joke!

This will be my 3rd need to be very gentle with the top section especially the ceramic piece in the tip unit. Still good iron for the money and good to have as a repair tool. Good for motorcycling and old style cables or Italian wiring connectors. Quick and easy to use just need gas and solder and shrink tube.

  • Works fine

Works fine unless you get a nozzle blockage if you do blow back with gas as instructions do not poke anything into the nozzle the orifice is so fine. If you do need to unscrew nozzle take care not to loose orifice plate which is very thin & light I did. The other information missing from instructions is how to use the soldering iron part .1 turn on and ignite to heat catalyst ,2 turn jet quickly off & on so gas blows onto catalyst this will glow to heat iron.

  • Perfect !

Just about perfect for my needs, my hobby is leathercraft, and everything from finishing off sewing thread, to heating up stamps and logo's and a multitude of jobs in between, Instant heat as soon as its needed, no waiting for it to warm up, and extremely cheap to run. One tank lasts forever. Also great for heating up acrylics for bending and shaping. Also, it's great for soldering, and heat shrink tubing. Only problem is, my wife keeps pinching it to light fires in the garden, must buy her one for xmas. Would highly recommend to anybody wanting to add a new dimension to their toolkit.

  • Blow torch

As a blow torch it's great but as for soldering, the tips are loose and the whole thing is very long, I have steady hands but because of the length there is a lot of movement at the end so it's difficult to do small work. After using it a couple of times it started to leek from the main gas chamber so it ended up if the bin.

  • Leaked

After using for a while when I tries to turn it off it wouldn't turn off properly on looking inside i found that the rubber washer used as a seal had broken. Ok for small jobs and handy for the tool box but as the seal broke i would not recommend being turned on and off a lot. You get what you pay for

  • Disappointed

Have a lot of silverline tools, very good quality. This Iron has to much flame and very little heat at the tip

  • Design not thought thru

Poor design, flames shoot out around the tip where you wanna solder, so the flames just melt everything, Turn it down low so there are no flames and the tip just doesn't heat up. Choose between melting everything or not, I would not recommend this for soldering, why is it even called a soldering iron, you can't solder jack with it Tries to used it a few times, just threw it in the bin
