You can translate "Quinquereme" with "five fruder". With this type of a Roman battleship, the rowers sat on three levels. More levels were not possible because otherwise the ships could no longer be taxed. In the Quinquereme, the helm was operated by one person in the lowest row, in the two upper ranks of two people. The five rudders on three rudders arranged on top of each other formed a section. There were ships with up to 30 sections on each ship's side, so that 150 rudderers were sitting on each side.
