This pre-amp is beautifully simple, it operates on one 9v 'smoke alarm' type battery (supplied), has an on-off switch, is small and unobtrusive and works perfectly. My new Denon mini system doesn't have a phono input and without the pre-amp the old turntable's output was insufficient even with the volume up full, With the pre-amp it's as loud as the radio at the same volume setting. The only minor criticism would be that to open the unit to put the battery in, I had to take the screws out of the lid, as the lid wouldn't open otherwise. Not really a problem, and it's really good value for money.

Great little pre-amp, compact, smart and most importantly it works really well. Bought because the built-in phono stage on my audio amp has been playing up. Connecting the turntable through the pre-amp into the audio amp's line inputs gives great sounding vinyl once more. Given the tiny signals involved I expect the supplied 9V battery will last for ages, provided I remember to switch the unit off after use! Overall a great little product for the money and very pleased with it.

I bought this preamplifier to amplify my Pro-Ject Carbon turntable for use on my livingroom receiver. The sound from this preamp is impressive when I take into account how cheap it was. Clean, tight and clear sound that makes my records sing. And no distortion or hum at all! It is housed inside a metal case, so it is very well shielded from outside electromagnetic interference. The only downside with it is that it should have had the ability to connect to an external power supply. But that can be done with a power supply with 9V battery snap-connector. But then again, the 9V battery (included) lasts for a very long time, so it shouldn't be a problem at all. If you need a good preamp, don't be fooled by how cheap it is. This is a very good preamp!

Initially sceptical re powered by a 9 v battery but makes sense as no signal interference ( and no extra plug socket needed). Neat little device - pretty small, take the cover off - 2 small screws, put three battery in replace cover and switch on when required. Now new Denon system ( ie I phono input just “analog “ )plays my vinyl superbly.

I was looking for a simple, useful - and cheap ! - item of this type to 'boost' the level from the headphone output to the input of some active speakers. Because it is 'basic', one has to be cautious not to overload the input to it. Working well in the domestic environment that it is sited. Ideal for my purposes.

,Audio quality is fine although I had to earth my pickup inputs to my main amplifier due to a low frequency hum.It could do with a visual indication when switched on as easily left turned on .But for the price it is good value for money

This is a really great product which allows you to connect low level phono output to the input of a line level amplifier. This one works brilliantly with extremely low noise thanks to the fact that it is battery powered and therefore you get no hum from a transformer, and because the product is such a low power user the included 9v battery will last for ages. I can thoroughly recommend.

Pleased with preamp. Set up easy. Now enjoying records again through my cinema system. One gripe. Should have been made clearer this only works with 9 volt battery. Would have preferred mains / power adapter.

Worked as promised but only after purchasing a replacement needle. Deducted one star for no response (as far as I could tell) to my "what advice could be offered to troubleshoot the amp's apparent failure" query. As I hoped, the amp wasn't the issue but, given it was the latest change I'd made, I didn't want to start making other, potentially expensive, changes when none were required.

Works well, except that there is no earthing contact, so you might need to find something suitable to earth to if you are experiencing a hum on the output. For me that made it unworkable so I bought a cheap DJ mixer which acts as a preamp, earth and switches between my turntable and tape deck.
