Boyd's stocks
Let me start by saying I won my gun in my gun clubs raffle so I had a very low investment in the initial unit! Only the tax ! I have a Gunsmithing background so I wanted to turn this Savage Axis II chambered in 243 into a long-range Varmint Rifle! In order to do that I needed a better stock platform for the action ! The Boyd's stock that I purchased fit that bill but I must say although I gave it the ratings I did that was only because there is no middle ground on the ratings! The overall quality of the stock is very good but they have increased their price and cheapend up the accessories that it comes with ! ( The trigger guard and front magazine clip are plastic JUNK )!! They do offer the metal trigger guard for an extra fee and I purchased the front magazine clip aftermarket in CNC aluminum ! for their new price point of these stocks these should be included in that price! Also there were a lot of wood hairs left in the barrel channels that I feel should have been cleaned up a little better! Don't get me wrong I am very happy overall with the product and after finishing the modifications and clean up including pillar bedding the action my gun now shoots half inch groups at 250 yards which was the accuracy I was looking for that is not attainable with a factory stock!!

Not a bad stock, but expected better
Be prepared to modify this stock, the mag. clip is made of plastic and breaks easily, also I had to make shims to bring the clip down, because the mag wouldn't lock into place, because the clip was to far in, also if you have a custom trigger kit the trigger and the safty won't function without the shims, because the clip allows the bolt assembly to sit to low in the stock, so the shims under the clip piece are nessasary for proper functionality, I guess boydes offers a machined clip at a large extra cost which is ridiculous, but whatever, I bought this for my girlfriend and she loves it and thats what matters!Verified purchase: YesCondition: New
