These modern games are extremely hard to learn and play. They look wonderful and are clearly well designed and presented but the complexity of the character's options and choices and menus and the incessant fight scenes make it an overwhelming experience for someone not versed in the gameplay. Reading reviews made me think this type of game would be manageable but unfortunately it was stressful and disappointing. This is not a reflection on Skyrim which is probably fantastic.

My partner was unsure of the game as he had found the other games released prior to this one a bit slow. The graphics are amazing and he has spent time playing the game. Leave him alone and he'll play for hours.

Skyrim is a little slow to get going, but it's very addictive once you start to get the hang of it. The game starts with a dragon - which is always a good start in my book. Unfortunately it's one of those games where the dragons are evil and therefore you and everyone else is generally trying to kill them. But it does get better. They're not just bad, they're world-wide conspiracy bad with one dragon that actually tries to help you as part of the critical path of the plot! There is a lot of free will in this game and it generally gives you the freedom to make massive mistakes and attack would-be allies! You can even alienate whole towns for little more than doing the right thing and trying to follow the plot as best you can. The results can be quite entertaining, especially when 30 of them are after you and you've picked up a friend or two and upgraded your armor (hit loads and occasionally heal! great fun!!) It kind of breaks the RPG mould, as you can be a magical warrior with great archery skills. How much you use a weapon determines just how good you get with it as well as how you upgrade your skills on the way through. It's also pretty easy to switch to a new weapon and get it up to a decent level, so that a great magical weapon found can still be useful. It's a game worth learning the basics early on, rather than just trying to go on the rampage and you can choose what type of character you want to be in looks, skills and persona. If you want addictive game-play, look no further, with online modes of play and co-operative quests as well as solo quests and a great core plot, you will never get bored (as long as you remember fast travel on the map!!) So make a hero for the ages or a villain that would get Darth Vader running for the hills! Read full review

On PS4 Pro this older Open World Classic still looks wonderful e.g. on Samsung Q9FN TV, and the default controls are the same as they would be on an Xbox or PC. Haven't tried it with vanilla PS4 or 1080i TV but it would probably be much the same. Vs. PC the only downside is that when entering/leaving buildings etc. the in-game loading takes a bit longer. Good luck with the family when they don't want to watch you playing it for hours!
