Good thermostat, don't expect a permanent blue back light.

This thermostat is a brilliant buy, you will not get another type with all the features this one has for the same money or anywhere near. I brought this thermostat for two reasons: 1. My Honeywell thermostat (cost £38 two years ago) only shows the temp, you cannot set different times or different temperatures, also it had a very loud "click" when turning the boiler on or off and in the middle of the night it could really wake you up. This Salus one is so much quieter. 2. The ad said it had a easy to read LCD with blue back light, the blue back light only comes on when using the settings. I will admit it was the blue back light that also attracted me as I thought it was on permanently. It did take quite a while to set all of the settings because of the "time zones", I only want to set a 9am - 9pm - 9am 7 days a week but oh boy you have to do every single one separately. Apart from this the unit seems to work well enough as yet I guess time will tell but for this price I would rip it out and chuck it away and still not complain.

    Not as good as expected

Fully programmable for winter months but when programmed if temperature drops in summer it operates when not really needed. I like to keep my house at a constant 22° C but it's a bit warm on a summer night and no way can you override it without turning it off

  • Does the job and well worth the money

I have used this item to control a kick space heater in the kitchen for about three years now. It does everything you would expect it to and is considerably cheaper than some of the better know brands in the sector. Installation and programming are straight forward. A nice touch is that the current room temperature is shown on a large LCD display, but by momentarily pressing a button, you can see what the programmed temperature is and then you can easily override the setting to a new temperature but for that period only. After that it resets to the original programme settings. This is a useful feature which I use a lot. Does the job and well worth the money.

  • Good value programmable thermostat

Easy to install, works well, excellent value compared to others on market. Time consuming to programme as there is no 'copy day' type feature that some other models have, and I would've liked to have manual override function be for e.g. only an hour rather than until the next programmed time, but doesn't seem you can get any for under £100 with this feature. However overall excellent value for money.

  • Good value for money.

Good value for money. Not sure how durable as door hinge seems a bit flimsy. Plastic quality in some parts a bit poor. Connections via standard back plate is easy to wire. On the whole good for the money. Display is clear. Gives 3 times per 24 hours in both 5 and 7 day mode. Hopefully a change of battery doesn't mean the programmes are lost because programming takes a bit of time!!

  • A worthwhile improvement

Reasonably priced programmable thermostat does a good job in replacing old style thermostats. Instructions could be more comprehensive but relatively easy to programme timer. It has five programmes but each is only an On time so must use all five to cover 24 hours. To set an Off time you need to set a lower temperature so that heating does not come on!

  • Room Stat

This Salus Room Stat replaced the conventional Room Stat which was not very accurate. The Salus is brilliant, it keeps the room at a constant temperature. Programming needs a bit of thinking about, it's easy once you have decided the range of temperatures you need through out the day. Very good value for money.

  • Salus RT300 RF Digital thermostat.

Bought as a replacement for a 20 year old one which was starting to go intermittently faulty, due to a previous owner allowing the batteries to leak, causing a poor connection due to corrosion starting on the terminals and probably inside the unit. The new one was an instant cure and worked out of the box once the batteries were fitted, and the old units batteries removed. The only thing to check is that the jumper settings to correspond to the old unit. This is explained in the manual, or available online. The full kit comprises two items, the thermostat itself (transmitter) and the receiver which connects to the boiler. I didn't have to change the new receiver, and it's a later (smaller) type. So they are obviously interchangeable. To use the new receiver needs a plumber to connect and set up.

  • Setup and Forget, reliable product.

Once you understand the concept of how it splits the day into five programmable slots and after a little tweaking over the first week, then you have a thermostat that works perfectly and is pretty much 'setup and forget'. It allows you to change from the programmed temperature using the up and down arrows, override effectively, and becomes very easy for the rest of the family to increase and decrease the temperature without messing up the programme. I wanted something simple and reliable and this fits the bill perfectly for a very reasonable price.

  • Does the job at a reasonable price.

Easy to use, fit and set programmes. Does the job it's designed for. Looks ok with the blue backlight but it is fairly bulky. Can be programmed for lots of on and offs throughout the day but you can only program these to be the same every day or every weekday and different settings for both days at the weekend. It is probably as described though, I just didn't realise exactly what the 5/2 meant. Ok for my needs though.
