Amazing sound on a budget!
I had almost decided to give up on a pair of B&W DM580 speakers that did not sing under the power of my Yamaha RX-V483 receiver. Lucky a friend who has already taken the HiFi plunge recommended a higher end amplifier and matched the Cambridge Audio AXR100 with my needs and budget. I was even more delighted to find this refurbished unit being sold directly by the manufacturer. This amplifier produces amazing results with the speakers and you cannot beat the $400 price tag. I was pleasantly surprised at the warm ultra clean sound from both analog and digital sources. I am using CA Solo MM phono stage so I can't comment on the internal phono stage but I would expect similar, which is great! As one who usually buys flagship-1 models, I took the chance on this one based on CA's reputation for warm accurate sound and imaging, and all the top reviews for this genuine bargain receiver. The AXR100 hasn't let me down. I also favor the digital display, as simple as it is, for dB sound level volume, and the ability to tweak the tone controls for my room. The subwoofer output for me is a must for bass reinforcement. It's got AM/FM but no HD FM and I don't use the radio anyway. I have a Sirius subscription and even though this receiver has no network interface, it has Bluetooth which paired immediately and I use an Ipod-touch for network connectivity and streaming. So all in all, it had everything, more than the integrated amps I was considering for double the dollars, and makes me a happy camper. My "analog+" system consists of a modified Thorens MK166MKII turntable, Ortofon Super OMP Stylus 30, Cambridge Audio Solo MM external phono stage, Michael Green Rev6i speakers and a Yamaha CDX-1100U CD deck. More Than MidFi...
I'm very pleased! I needed to replace a twelve year old Onkyo 8050 receiver that lost the right channel. I did a ton of research and comparison. I'm retired and on a fixed income so my budget is tight. I really couldn't afford the ARX 100 new and was going to buy a Yamaha AS 301. Thankfully I discovered the Cambridge Audio site on Ebay. A refurbished unit fit my budget and after reading the positive reviews I decided to pull the trigger on this model. Boy was I glad that I did! When the receiver arrived I inspected it and found it to be indistinguishable from new. I hooked it up to my Mirage floorstanders and ran a coax digital interconnect from my CD player to the DAC. Hit the power and dropped in a Maddy Prior CD (British through British). Just a great sound! The bass is full and deep. Treble is refined without any brassiness. But oh the midrange! Incredible tone and soundstage. I'm impressed with the amplifier. Fantastic rhythm and pace. Much smoother than the typical Japanese tuning. I'm delighted with the sound. The bonus is that I effectively get a new CD player because the built-in DAC is quite good. All in all I'm one happy camper! Great value overall. Crystal clear highs, dynamic lows, muted midrange.
I was disappointed with the sound out of the box, it was dull and muted, but after playing it for a half hour or so, it started to warm up and sound more dynamic. I’ve always read that some electronics need time to “burn in” and I’ve experienced that now with two pieces of equipment, both from Cambridge. After a break in period it’s continued to sound better and better. I’m replacing a 45 watt Rotel integrated amplifier with this receiver. The Rotel has more natural sounding and dynamic midrange with vocals that are more realistic and clear, but 100 watts per channel from the Cambridge definitely has it’s advantages. When you play this receiver moderately loud, the sound really opens up. The high notes are crystal clear and the speakers react quickly to the lower frequency music. The muted vocals at lower power levels improve significantly when you turn up the juice. All things considered, I’m pleased with the purchase. My only disappointment is the midrange vocals sound like you’re listening through a veil, especially at lower volumes. Interestingly, the vocals are a bit less muted on vinyl than CD’s (I have it mated with a Music Hall turntable and a Cambridge CD player, which also has an understated midrange, and they may not be the best match for each other in that respect.) Cosmetically, there is a small, barely noticeable scratch on the volume knob. Otherwise, I would have had no clue the item was a refurbished unit. Of note, the rear speaker posts are pretty cheap on my unit. I’ve seen at least 3 different type posts in various pictures on the internet. Unfortunately, I got the one kind that doesn’t allow the use of banana plugs. Overall, I’m pleased with the purchase, it was a screaming bargain for $350 refurbished.Verified purchase: YesCondition: Pre-owned

Excellent sound quality and plenty of power
Excellent value for an audiophile quality receiver. The receiver looks like new except for some wear on the volume knob. Plenty of power, bluetooth works well. Factory refurbished may be better than new.

Thoroughly enjoying it!
I'm no "audiophile", but music has been a huge part of my life since I was little. However, in recent years I just wasn't enjoying it the way I used to so I decided to put together a little system and it has really made me enjoy music much more again and the AXR100 is the center of it. I can't compare it to other integrated amps but I have no complaints so far. I was very happy at the condition it came in since it was a refurbished unit.
