A High Point of Recent Television
'Westworld' has completed one season as of 2017, ending on a high note, with positive reviews. Based on the MIchael Crichton drama of the same name, the series uses the early 1970s feature film as a basis, but updates the narrative to account for intervening advances in Artificial Intelligence, which have been considerable since the film was made. The overall buzz surrounding this show is similar to Game of Thrones and the early Walking Dead. The sci-fi foundations of the narrative are softened by the western theme, and should appeal to a broad base of tastes. In 2017, 'Westworld' is an escape environment for humans, who have at their disposal various artificial 'hosts' who are available for carnal pleasures and shootout excitement - in other words, the wild west, conceived and constructed for the visitors. There is a backdrop of mystery as the hosts start catching on to the contrived nature of their consciousness, and questions about the corporation controlling the A.I. them park emerge. It is not always possible to distinguish between human and machine on the basis of personality alone, which makes for some interesting wrinkles in this world. Scripts, visuals and acting (including Anthony Hopkins) are first rate. The Blu-Ray presentation is superb. This special edition tin includes the Ultra HD discs as well. I won't be viewing them until I upgrade to Ultra HD equipment. Given the high quality of the source material, I assume they are more than satisfactory.Verified purchase: YesCondition: New

I Had No Idea. Better Late Than Never
A very engaging show with high production values. All the actors fit their characters, so casting was spot on. It's just a very well made series. I was aware of it when the first season started, but I didn't take it seriously enough to watch it. I know now that I was wrong about not taking an interest at the time. Wow. What a great redo of Westworld. Engaging, entertaining and intriguing. The mystery about what is going on is well paced and you want to keep watching to see what happens next. Good show but bad disc
The show is good and the characters are interesting. Now that the character backgrounds have been introduced, I hope to see some unique story lines in season 2. Disc 3, the actual 4K disc itself on my copy didn't work. At least the blu-ray disc worked so I could finish the season.
