  • Good ol' Tru-Oil

Amazing stuff! I have used it as a finish on a couple of guitar necks and on the body of one. It provides a hard, clear and durable finish. I apply thinly using a folded paper towel and after it has set it can be lightly rubbed with 0000 grade wire wool as a key to enable the application of successive coats. A tip here: if you're doing this with the pick-ups installed, cover them with masking tape or the fragments from the wire wool will stick to the pole-pieces and they're a devil to get off! On the neck, it provides a lovely no-friction surface that feels great.

  • Amazing Stuff!

Really easy to use - just wipe on with a cloth. Leave about 2 hours between coats and rub down with fine wet and dry after any coats if needed . I applied about 10 coats over 3 days and left for a week to cure. Then rubbed down with very fine wet and dry to get a flat surface and then buffed with T cut metal polish to get a gloss finish. It really brings out the grain beautifully. Also no fumes

  • Excellent product with outstanding results.

I found nothing negative to say abut this product. I had a old air rifle stock to try to save as it was damaged and full of marks. After sanding it down as much as I could I used Birchwood Casey True-Oil on it. I gave it about ten coats with a light sanding in between the coats. It came up with a very good finish (much better than anticipated) I am delighted with this product and shall be using it again if I ever need to put a shiny durable coating on any wood surface in the future. One word of advise is not to rush it and take your time allowing 24 hours in between each coat before sanding and re-coating.

  • A novice gets professional results

Thought I would try this on a dull walnut stock. So, so easy to apply. Really exposes the colours and grains within the wood and produces a lovely gloss finish. Having never used products like this before (and my nearest experience to Wood care being putting preservative on a shed) I'm really pleased with the finish I achieved. I will always only use this product on wood stocks from now on.

  • it really isn't worth using anything different, top stuff.

I use Tru-Oil as protection and a finish on my natural wood finish guitars, i can leave them with a sheen or polish to an amazing gloss all the time knowing that no matter what finish i go for, the wood is beautiful to look at, lovely to the touch and the finish will last for years. Time and patience will yield amazing results that for years will be complimented. seriously good product.

  • great finish and protection

Bought this oil to finish an acoustic guitar build. After a couple of coats of sand and sealer the oil went on easily two coats with a light sanding in-between provided and excellent finish - good shine and protection. Finished with a light buffing of polish the guitar looks amazing very pleased will use again on other instrument builds.

  • Great product wipe on protection

Try oil is a wipe on finish used for gun stock finishing but equally as good for any other wood you want to protect. I use for guitar finishing especially good for necks, it protects like poly but the hand glides more easily along the neck and can help speed up chord changes

  • Use of tru oil in guitar making

Tru oil is the only product I use on guitar necks. It coats with minimal effort and a little goes a long way. Drying times vary but usually 24 hrs suffice. Tru oil gives a gloss finish or with the use of fine steel wool a matt finish is easily achieved
