OK, there are zillions of Muddy Waters compilations out there, but there are several reasons why this one gets the 5 star treatment. This particular compilation is on the Epic label and was released in 1993. There are 12 tracks, which means that it's just the right length of playing time, some of these blues compilations have a ridiculous amount of tracks on one CD, which for me is overkill and puts me off buying. The sound quality is very good, and as well as all the Muddy songs that you would expect (Mannish Boy, Baby Please Don't Go etc.) there is also a nice version of the Slim Harpo track, I'm A King Bee. All in all, this is a great album, so if you are new to Muddy Waters and want to check him out, you don't need to look any further than Hoochie Coochie Man.
I originally bought this cd years ago, but recently it got mislaid and when I went to look for it to play it on
Christmas Day I was devastated when I could not find it. I immediatly searched the internet and bought
three cd's on ebay.
This is blues at its best - real blistering stuff, the blues evolved in America but Muddy Waters
gave the blues to the rest of the world.
