this great transmission jack made by sealey is a good weight to prove it will last many years to come it's universal and can be used also for rear axel's leaving your hands free and not doing yourself injury making it worth while by completing the task quicker, this transmission jack has wheel's so it can be moved around under the vehicle making it easier to line up the correct position making it safer so the gearbox stay's on in the correct position on the jack, so no injury to you, by the gearbox dropping off the jack, this jack also has a strap to secure the gearbox so if you needed to bring the jack out from under the car/van etc this add's extra safety,

Prior to purchasing this item, I had high hopes that this transmission jack would make my life a lot easier when it comes to removing and replacing gearboxes which I do on quite a regular basis. However, the reality is somewhat different!!! There are several things wrong with this jack, firstly the surface you put the gearbox on is not fit for purpose. Being a 'V'shape is fine if you have a flat bottomed gearbox, but how many gearbox casings are just flat? The ones i remove and refit have lumps and bumps everywhere meaning the gearbox does not sit straight and is impossible to get back in position. Whilst on the subject of that surface, it's always made of nice shiny metal which with another metal surface (gearbox) together they like to slide around a lot again making it very difficult to keep the gearbox steady and in position. The jacking system is very difficult and fiddly to jack up. Instead of the rotating mechanism it has, it could do with a standard trolley jack 'up and down' system. By having the rotating system, I found that I needed to use my ratchet to lift the jack up whilst holding the jack body to prevent it moving around. Lastly, the actually scissor system when extended is no where near sturdy enough! I had a Mondeo 6 speed gearbox strapped to the jack and 3/4 extended up and the jack was leaning over at about a 25 degree angle and it eventually fell over!!! Basically, this jack is not fit for the job it was designed for and is not substantial enough to take the weight of JUST a Mondeo gearbox. I am very disappointed as SEALEY are a well known brand when it comes to tools etc and they are usually of very good quality. However, this is rubbish. Not worth the £100 I paid for it!Read full review

It's a well made item and good for maneuvering heavy items. It would be fine for lifting a diff. It's let down by the strap mechanism. The ratchet can't be operated where access is tight e.g. in a transmission tunnel which is where transmissions tend to be located. So this feature isn't much good. That said it can still be used to lower and raise gearboxes just not as well as one might hope.

I've used mine twice now and although it was perfectly capable with a 45kg Fiesta gearbox, it was on it's absolute outer limits of construction and safety with a 95kg XJ8 gearbox. My opinion is the 150kg rating is based on the weight the unit can simply handle static, BEFORE you raise the jack and this is not mentioned anywhere. The tilt function of the platform would be a great feature - if it was more than just 2 degrees. The platform is also so smooth I had to glue rubber matting to it to stop the transmissions from slipping about. Lastly, the design of the safety strap means it's often impossible to open the ratchet fully and release it once you've put the box up into it's position. In summary, it's a useful jack, but DO NOT trust it beyond your average FWD gearbox. In summary,

Used to remove and replace gearbox from MX5 on my own, with vehicle on axle stands. Didn't fancy the Youtube method of resting gearbox on my chest, after doing the job I would have found that method dangerous if not impossible. While product isn't perfect, main issue being slippery metal surface and fixing strap, no space to tension for gearbox removal but it was possible to use for re-fitting, after fitting gearbox removed one of the bolts holding on the strap. Without this I couldn't have done the job safely on my own. With refitting it was possible to leave gearbox supported, then check inside engine bay for etc for problems as well as jacking engine to align with gear box. Excellent value and solid construction for the home mechanic working on their own.
