Brenda Blethyn always gives a standout performance as DCI Vera Stanhope, and this four disc set begins with the filmed version of writer Ann Cleeves Vera book On Harbour Street, very well done and mostly faithful to the book. There are three other episodes, Protected, The Deer Hunters, and Death of a Family Man. Great fun for Vera fans.
Another reviewer didn't like this set 4 of Vera. My wife and I have watched all 5 sets of Vera and loved every one. The stories are feature length at 90 minutes. The locations are beautiful and the actors are well chosen for their roles. Vera herself is not very likable all the time (grumpy, harsh with people and not complimentary), but she goes after the criminal with vigor and really uses her older woman talents of sweetness followed by harsh accusations to get information from witnesses and suspects. Not for everyone I guess, but a great show in my opinion.
