Not as it used to be in its "golden years", but still our annual nostalgia trip. No craft features.

My family are Rupert fans and we have about 7 decades of these annuals. A feature which is sadly missing these days is the craft - there used to be an origami feature up to (?years ago) - 2 pages of instructions to fold a paper model of an object mentioned in one of the stories. These were quite intricate and the instructions reminded me of a geometry exercise in a maths textbook. I also recall there was sometimes/always? an additional craft feature to make something out of card/wood/glue. Perhaps if children were introduced to these activities they might become interested - a natural way for them to be "pried away" from their screens? The contents of this year's annual are: (years of the annuals and names of illustrators given in brackets): 6 stories: "Rupert and the Go-Kart" from 1988 (John Harrold) "Rupert and the Skylark" from 1999 (John Harrold) "Rupert and the Wonderful Kite" from 1937 (Alfred Bestall) "Rupert and the Bearcycle" (No date given - I assume this is 2019. Story originated by Stuart Trotter. Text and couplets written by Mara Alperin) "Rupert and the Windmill" (1985, John Harrold) "Rupert and the Deep Freeze" (1996, John Harrold) 2 puzzles (one is a kind of "I spy with my little eye" and the other is a very easy "spot the differences". .

  • Bought as extra gift for my 67 yr old bro for childhood revisited! He was delighted with it. Only spoiler is there is no actual 2020 marked on/in it.

    A lovely annual book!

  • Rupert Annual

The drawings in this book are the traditional type with very detailing, something which is rare nowadays. The book is for my adult son and I have been buying the Rupert Annual for him since he was a toddler. This is our family tradition. He still loves Rupert. Rupert Annuals are timeless, in a time warp of a gentler era, which is why it appeals to all ages from 2 to 102. A book all generations of the family can read, a book to be handed down, everyone is eager to read at Christmas, it has not lost any of its quaint charm. The puzzles, colouring in page and origami puzzles are not in the annual anymore, but the stories are still there. A brilliant traditional book.

  • Enjoyable read

My elderly father (86) has always been a fan of Rupert since his late Mother gave him his first copy during the 2nd world war to help take his mind off the bombings where he lived in East London.

  • Great, true to its origins

Reminds me of my youth when I received the Rupert annual every Christmas. Pity that there isn't the origami story and feature.

  • Rare unrecognised Rupert Annual

Lovely book, very rare, great price. Is it the true 2021 2020 or the 2019 100 anniversary Rupert birthday book ? It ticks the boxes. A must have for the serious collector.
