Longines Master Collection L26294783 Bi Compax Chronograph watch
At 40mm size, this watches about right for most wearers, it is based on a 1935 design Longines produced.
The Chromo mechanism is separate from the main movement making servicing simpler. It is a simple 2 button 'Fly back' type with the top button used as a start/stop button and the lower one to reset the hands to zero.
The large 'seconds' hand is for the chrono only. A sub dial shows the normal running seconds for usual use.
The case is stainless steel and nicely designed and finished, it has a glass exhibition back and the ETA main automatic movement is very nicely detailed and finished. It is a hacking mechanism so that by pulling the crown out to the second stop (allows the time to be set) the watch is stopped allowing the time to be manually set against a time signal). The Main Crown has a Longines logo too.
The dial is an attractive silver finished with a Barleycorn pattern, the characters are painted on and the sub dials for seconds and chromo minutes are groove patterned which contrast nicely to the other paternation.
The watch hands are a nice blue colour and stand out nicely against the dial. A bevelled chapter ring showing the seconds divisions of 5 seconds by number and the individual seconds by bar marks.
The Longines Logo is metal and applied to the dial face. A date window is at 6 o'clock position and is operated by pulling the crown out to the first stop and rotating the crown to set the date.
The strap is an alligator top strap with a calf leather inner, 21mm wide at the lugs an unusual size but carried through on a number of Longines watches. The strap catch is the deployment type which if the watch strap is released, should prevent the watch falling off the wrist.
It is not a heavy watch and about 11.7mm thickness so is not obtrusive. It has water resistance to 3 atm. The watch its nicely and is not too heavy or bulky, The recent Longines watches are nicely designed and the quality is excellent, the value for money is good and second hand are a great buy, you get a lot of watch for the price. I prefer their styling and features over many other Swiss makes.
My watch was a one owner piece bought 4 years ago and is very nice condition, it has a beautiful wooden presentation box and a comprehensive owners manual and card. Although the Chrono buttons are a bit stiff in operation, many will just buy it for the look.
